Bryan Meyer
Co-Founder & CEO, Veterans Community Project

2025 Philip Pistilli Silver Veteran’s Medal

The Truman Foundation is proud to honor Bryan Meyer, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the Chief Executive Officer of the Kansas City-based Veterans Community Project, which he co-founded.

After joining the Marine Corps in 2001, he was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station New River in North Carolina and was assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365 as a Crew Chief on a CH-46E Sea Knight helicopter. In January 2003, the squadron deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom providing casualty evacuation and assault support for ground forces. Later in 2004, Bryan Meyer returned with his squadron to Iraq to provide assault support from Al Asad Air Base. During these deployments, he amassed over 300 combat flight hours, earning an Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in combat operations. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2006 as a Corporal.

After returning home, Bryan Meyer earned a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in public administration, as well as a juris doctor degree at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He then turned his attention to helping fellow veterans address their housing, health, and education needs.

In 2016 he left the practice of law and established, with other like-minded combat vets, the Veterans Community Project (VCP) that provides veterans with transitional housing in a village of tiny homes of their own and with individualized support services. Specially trained case managers work with each resident to achieve incremental, lasting results in health and wellness, education, employment, and financial literacy, and to develop a personal support network. Using Kansas City as a model, the VCP has expanded its work to serve at-risk and homeless veterans across the United States, with operations in St. Louis and Milwaukee, as well as Longmont, Colorado; Glendale, Arizona; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
