Perpetuating the Memory & Legacy of President Truman
Perpetuating the Memory & Legacy of President Truman
Every year The Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation brings the community together to hear an extraordinary speaker talk about American values and why President Harry Truman’s principles and actions are both significant and enduring. Although times have changed, the Truman Legacy has not.
We recognize that Harry S. Truman:
- Successfully concluded World War II
- Established institutions like the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to protect democracy and freedom
- Ordered the end to racial segregation in the Armed Forces, launching the modern Civil Rights Movement
- Spoke plainly and honestly to the American people, becoming known as “Give ‘em Hell Harry”
