2015 Lt. Junior Grade Edward T. Matheny, Jr. – U.S. Naval Reserve – World War II

As a junior officer during World War II, Edward Matheny served on the staff of Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, the Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet, in both Pearl Harbor and in Guam. He later served aboard the battleships USS New Jersey and USS Iowa with the Fifth Fleet and during the occupation of Japan. He was released from active duty in June 1946 and continued to serve in the Naval Reserve until 1954. Mr. Matheny graduated from the University of Missouri and Harvard Law School, and is a senior partner with the law firm of Husch Blackwell LLP in Kansas City.

2015 Capt. Stephanie Ramos – U.S. Army Reserve – Iraq War

Stephanie Ramos joined the United States Army Reserve in 2002 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2005. In October 2008 she was ordered to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving in Kuwait and in Baghdad. Among her many citations, Captain Ramos was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in broadcast journalism and a master of arts degree in media studies from Iona College in New York. Captain Ramos continues to serve in the Army Reserve while working as a television news reporter and anchor at KMBC TV. She, her husband and their newborn child reside in the Kansas City area.
